ROTC Cadets Preparing to Begin the March Around Campus

The Purple Eagle Battalion contributed significantly to Niagara University’s successful “Take Back the Night” event on April 4, 2019. The 4th annual event was co-sponsored by Niagara University and the YMCA of the Niagara Frontier. It is dedicated to ending sexual assault and domestic violence, while also increasing understanding of ways to help individuals affected by either. More than 30 Cadets attended the event, participating in activities in Gallagher Center, the march around campus, and leading the procession in chants intended to bring awareness to these issues. Cadet McKenzie Moyer (Senior) and Cadet Jasmine Williams (Junior) led ROTC efforts this year and were in charge of creating chants, gathering materials, and setting up the information table. On the table were pamphlets on how ROTC and the military as a whole fights to end sexual and domestic violence through our Sexual Harassment Assault Response Program (SHARP). The importance of this event to our program was reflected by the strong turnout and involvement of Cadets. Cadet Williams personally led the chants during the march, while the ROTC contingent led the entire procession. There is without a doubt shared understanding amongst our Cadets that there is no place for sexual assault, sexual harassment, or relationship abuse on the Niagara University campus or in the ranks of the Army.
